Friday saw Airbus reserves play another game under the lights as we welcomed our opponents TNS reserves to the Hollingsworth Stadium
The game started at a great pace and pretty much maintained a great level of intensity from both teams
Knowing our entries in to the final third would be limited against TNS and that we would have to give up a little more possession than we like we really took the game by the scruff of the neck
Middle of the first half in the second phase of a corner saw Lewis Dutton called in to action to make a great save on to the post. Airbus also had two really good entries in the opposition final third but we could not capitalise on the moment. Half time score 0-0
Second half saw Airbus start the brighter of the two teams creating two chances early in the second half but again, we couldn’t capitalise. As we defended relentlessly without the ball forcing TNS to play more direct as we continued to frustrate our opponents. Finally 60’ of the battle through probably the only real mistake we made in our defensive balance TNS struck at the heart of the reserves defence and took their chance making it 1-0 to the visitors
Pleasingly we really made it tough for TNS tactically and created a few problems for them. Airbus reserves really gave a great performance and stood up to the challenge
There was a 15’ period we nearly drew blood ourselves applying great pressure and creating several exciting phases in their final third
Final score 1-0 TNS
Player of the week goes to Frankie Smith. Frankie has recently come back from injury and worked extremely hard to get back to Match fitness. Frankie takes tactical details onboard and is more than capable technically. I always think to get the praise from your peers is the biggest compliment any player can receive and several players told me how good he was making this weeks player of the week selection an easy one. Well done Frankie
