Airbus and Colwyn Bay went into battle with the host holding a 1-point lead over their rivals.
Airbus made a few changes to their starting line-up that started in the cup game against Llay last weekend. Joe Palmer, George Peers and Kaiden Cooke replacing Dan Collins, Sam Baker and Oli Lanceley.
Airbus got us underway on a very cold afternoon in Broughton kicking right to left.
Both teams tried to get hold of the game from kick off and the visitors delivered a dangerous cross from the left into the back post but Keighan Jones punched it away.
With 15 minutes nearly on the clock, Colwyn Bay hit the post when a free kick taken by Sam Hart from his own half wasn’t cleared by Airbus and it fell to Jake Cumming whose little touch directed the ball towards the goal but it come off the post for Jones to collect.
Two minutes later, Colwyn Bay scored the opener of the game. A long ball from the right was directed towards Cumming and he was helped with his route to goal when a miscommunication between Sam Rickett and Nath Williams, allowed Cumming with only Jones to beat and the Colwyn Bay No.7 hit an excellent shot to put the visitors in front.
Half an hour in, a Nath Williams clearance was headed from Solomon Forde to Lewis Sirrell, but Kaiden Cooke’s sharp movement allowed him to nick the ball before it reached Sirrell, and the No. 12 found himself 1v1 with Rhys Williams, but his heavy touch allowed the ‘keeper Williams to collect the ball to deny Cooke.
Ethan Roberts picked up the ball on the edge of the box after Cumming’s cross was cleared. Roberts drove at McManus and the Colwyn Bay No.11 created himself a half yard of space to send and effort towards goal, but Jones got down low to his left to turn the ball round for a corner.
Airbus had their equaliser just before half time, as Sam Rickett stepped in with the ball and played a great pass to Kieran Evans, who took one touch to set himself and deliver an inch perfect cross to the near post and this time it was met by George Peers, who’s brilliant header was buried into the back of the net.
The half time whistle blew and 1-1 was a fair reflection of the first half.
Colwyn Bay had the first chance of the second half when the Airbus defence was stretched and it allowed Roberts to collect the ball and send a cross towards goal but Jones collected the ball before Lindfield could get there.
Airbus were having a lot of joy in possession and probably were seeing more of the ball in the second half. This time it was McManus getting involved in the action, when he advanced down the right and hung the ball up at the back post but Danny Warren on the stretch was unable to direct his header.
Craig Lindfield had a great chance to give Colwyn Bay the lead, but his volley was way over.
On 75 minutes, Kaiden Cooke proved to be a handful for the visitors all game, found Jordan Evans with a square pass and the Airbus No.9 took on Joseph Williams and unleashed a left footed strike which Rhys Williams saved around the post for a corner.
Airbus made a double substitution on 76 minutes with Oli Lanceley and James Davies replacing goal scorer George Peers and Danny Warren.
James Davies had a great chance not long after he entered the game with a strike from the left just dropping over the bar.
Airbus were creating chance after chance in the last 10 minutes but some great body on the line defending by Colwyn Bay blocked efforts from Jordan Evans and Davies.
With three minutes remaining of the 90, Jones collected the ball confidently from a Colwyn Bay corner and reacted quickly with a long ball in the direction of Davies. A slip from Joseph Williams enabled the Airbus No.20 to run at goal and he struck an amazing strike that looked to have maybe won it for the hosts, but his effort was just wide of the post.
Final whistle blew on a great game and the points were shared.
