The away side were the ones to get us underway kicking left to right as the sun beamed down on the first midweek game of the 2024/2025 season at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
We wasted no time applying the pressure and Cooke was the man creating problems in the first spell with two dangerous balls across the face of the goal but there was nobody in dark blue to meet them at the back post.
However, it wasn’t long before chances became results K.Evans lobbed a ball down the left flank. Peers picked it up with the keeper having to come to meet him. A quick knock left, and the keeper was in no man’s land giving an easy left footed pass into an empty goal. 1-0 Airbus.
Quickly we were on the end of a big chance for the visitors as a cute one two between the two Llandudno front men created the first goal scoring opportunity for The Seasiders but the shot by Boss dragged across the face of goal.
Our first corner of the game resulted in absolute chaos as J.Evans sent a great cross to the far post where Warren received the ball and picked out a shot. It rebounded and his second attempt was again blocked. The ball then bounced around the edge of the box before Peers flicked a pass over his head to an arriving Edwards, but the powerful strike is over the bar.
Another effort from Cooke was just wide of the target. A drilled pass from Edwards met the wingers’ feet who used impressive footwork to adjust his body and beat his marker, affording him the chance to pick out a strike from distance but it was tame and off the mark.
We soon found the second through another bit of luck for Peers. A poor pass back from the Llandudno centre half forced the visiting goalkeeper well off his line to stop the goal scorer an easy one on one. The clearance was poor, and J. Evans was the first to the ball with an empty net to pass into increasing the Airbus lead. 2-0.
Just before the end of the half the third was added and again it was easy stuff for the leaders. A ball over the top and Warren beat the defensive line, but he halted himself to disrupt the momentum of the chasing defender. Thus, a simple strike rolls into the bottom corner and it was a long way back for the visitors now. Airbus 3-0.
After a quick break, Mark Allen’s men got us back underway with the pressure firmly on the visiting shoulders as a result of the three-goal lead.
Llandudno were the side with most of the ball after the break and they quickly had a free kick on the edge of the box in a very dangerous area. It was a curled left footed strike into the bottom right corner but fantastic goalkeeping from Jones denied the goal.
The resulting throw met the head of a light blue attacker but a huge left hand from Jones again pushed it to safety.
As the visitors began to apply even more pressure, they wasted perhaps the biggest chance of the game. We looked to play out from the back but a poor knock across the face of goal was latched onto from the visiting striker but his effort from five yards out was bizarrely dragged wide.
Penalty for Airbus and it has to be said it was entirely down to the work of Cooke. He picked up the ball deep into our half and performed a beautiful turn to send the Llandudno left back. A burst of pace to escape three men chasing him down the right flank allowed him to cross to Warren who was clumsily brought down. The striker grabbed the ball and coolly slotted into the bottom right corner sending the keeper the wrong way. 4-0 Airbus.
And a long night soon got even longer for the visitors as Palmer’s in swinging cross from a free kick to the back post finds Warren who headed home to complete his hat trick. 5-0 Airbus.
Some desperation began to creep in for the visitors and some questionable tackles began to land as Palmer was knocked whilst he was mid-air and landed painfully on his back. After some treatment the captain was back to his feet.
This knock didn’t deter him though as with four minutes added on, Palmer looked to add a sixth however his free kick was only able to find the roof of the net.
That strike would put the end to a commanding night of football under the lights at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium which sees The Wingmakers reclaim top spot in the JD Cymru North with 12 goals scored and 0 conceded across the opening two games.
