WingMakers finish the season with three points

Airbus took the long trip to Caersws on the last game of the season, still in with a chance of the league title.

There was one change to the starting XI that drew with Mold Alexandra last weekend, with George Peers replacing Jordan Evans.

Danny Warren got us underway on a mild overcast afternoon with Airbus looking to get a grip of the game from the off.

4 minutes in, Ryan Edwards had the first effort of the game as he picked the ball up on the edge area and his first time shot was blocked by a Caersws head.

A brilliant ball into the box by Kieran Evans was headed back by George Peers into the danger area but it was cleared.

18 minutes, Airbus had their lead through James Davies. Josh Stevenson sent a searching ball to Davies, whose first touch took him away from the Caersws full back. A quick one-two with Danny Warren, gave Davies the space to pass the ball past Max Williams and into the back of the net.

James Davies had a second 4 minutes later. A wonderful outside of the boot pass from Ryan Edwards found Davies in space and he was able to flick the ball up and set himself with looping volley which dipped over Williams’ head to make it 2-0.

The leagues top scorer Danny Warren had a really good chance just before the half hour. This time Davies was the provider as he set Warren 18 yards out and you would have backed Warren to place it in the bottom corner, but his shot was wide.

Caersws had their first clear cut chance of the first half when Rhys Hesden ran across the Airbus defence, but he dragged his shot wide.

34 minutes, and Airbus were 3-0 to the good. Kaiden Cooke with some great work down the right delivered a brilliant cross into the box, which was met by a Warren header which was guided into the back of the net.

1 minute into injury time, Caersws had a lifeline when a reverse pass was into the path of Rhys Hesden and finished calmly past Keighan Jones.

The half-time whistle blew, with the home team with their tails up looking to cause Airbus problems in the second half.

Caersws got us underway for the second half looking to put pressure on Airbus.

George Peers had the first chance of the second half, as he cut inside and sent a shot goal wards, but it clipped the post and wide.

Airbus were soaking up a lot of Caersws pressure after a lifeline before half time through Hesden. A ball in from Lyndon Jones was cleared by Stevenson, who hadn’t missed a header all game.

Due to the pressure from Caersws, Airbus were finding gaps in behind and Davies was played in by Peers, but his shot was over.

Peers was beginning to pick the pockets of space, and he created a great chance for Warren, but Max Williams pulled of a point blank save to deny the Airbus No.8.
64 minutes, Airbus introduced Lanceley for Peers.

Caersws’ introduced their March player of the month Max McLaughlin, and he delivered a fantastic cross to the back post which nearly caught Keighan Jones out, but it dipped past the far post.

McLaughlin was involved again, 4 minutes later as he picked the ball up on the half turn and his shot is not far from the far corner.

73 minutes, some great work from Ryan Edwards in the midfield played the ball into Warren’s path, who delivered across goal, but Davies was unable to direct the ball goal wards.

With just under quarter of an hour remaining, fresh legs were introduced by Airbus with Sam Baker and Toby Vickery replacing Joe Palmer and Kaiden Cooke.

Kieran Evans’ quality on the ball showed on 81 minutes as he sent an unbelievable cross into Davies, but the ball bounced just in front of the Airbus forward where a goal looked certain.

With three minutes remaining of the 90, the hosts were rewarded a free kick, which McLaughlin stood over. He sent the ball goal wards, and Keighan Jones was unable to collect as it bounced off his chest and up. Harry Cottam was first to react and sent a header into the top corner.

This set up a nervy injury time, but Airbus saw the game out with three points.
