Great second half comeback gives the WingMakers three points

Airbus played their third game in a week, as they travelled to the Essity Stadium to take on Flint Mountain on a cold and wet Friday evening.

Airbus made a few changes to the side that started against Llay on Tuesday evening with Ryan Edwards, George Peers, Jordan Evans and Tyler McManus replacing Joe Palmer, Dan Collins, Oli Lanceley and Sam Baker.

Jordan Evans got us underway for the evening as the game kicked off with Airbus looking to keep the pressure on at the top.

The opening five minutes were a scruffy affair with neither team able to get the ball down and play.

On 6 minutes some great work from Josh Stevenson allowed the ball to break free and the ball into the channel for Danny Warren was met, Warren pulled the ball back to George Peers who was free on the edge of the box, but the No.11 went for power as his effort was blasted over.

Flint Mountain were awarded a free kick on 17 minutes. Ryan Kershaw stood over the free kick and his curling effort came crashing off the bar and Airbus were unable to deal with the second ball. The ball eventually fell to Andy Brown, and he volleyed it into the roof of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The goal gave Flint Mountain the drive and confidence to go on and press Airbus, which resulted in the visitors going long and unable to play their own game.

34 minutes, Jack Sconce found a few yards of space on the edge of the box which allowed him to get a shot away, but he dragged his shot wide.

It was all Flint Mountain at the moment and there was a header from Aaron Simpson, but Josh Stevenson got his head to the ball to deny the Flint Mountain No.18 as it went for a corner.

Sconce was finding space just outside the box very well and he was able to have a shot from 20 yards out, but his effort was dragged wide once again.

The hosts could have made it 2-0 before half time, a corner from the left was delivered into the box and Airbus failed to deal with the corner which caused chaos within the penalty area. Brown was alive to the ball but unfortunately couldn’t make the connection to divert goal wards.

Airbus started the second half looking to get themselves back into the game, but it was Flint Mountain who had the first chance of the half. It was Sconce once again finding the space on the edge of the area, and this time his shot was much closer than his previous efforts but Keighan Jones had it covered.

This kicked Airbus into action, Peers with some great skill to get free from Alfie Clark as he pulled the ball back, but it was brilliantly intercepted by Rocco Hewitt.

Kaiden Cooke was introduced on 53 minutes for James Davies.

56 minutes and Airbus were level. They were awarded free kick after a strong challenge on McManus. Jordan Evans stood over the free kick and sweetly struck an amazing effort that beat John Danby into the top corner.

Jordan Evans was starting to take control of the game for Airbus and this time he delivered a great cross into the box which found Ryan Edwards, but his header was off target.

A minute later, J. Evans delivered a well-timed delivery in behind the Flint Mountain defence, which perfectly found Warren but his effort is at a nice level for Danby to save.
Just after the hour, Oli Lanceley was introduced for Josh Stevenson as Airbus searched for that winner.

There was a chance for the hosts on 67’ as Airbus failed to clear the ball and between Sam Rickett and Nath Williams, they were able to clear the ball on the line.

72 minutes, Airbus had their second goal. From a Flint throw in, Williams cleared the ball to Warren who set the ball for Edwards, and he set Kaiden Cooke on his way down the left. Cooke clipped the ball to the near post and Oli Lanceley was there to head the ball into the back of the net.

The momentum had now swung in Airbus’ favour and Cooke’s pace was causing problems down the right. Cooke tried his luck with a curling effort which looked like it was going to dip under the bar, but a strong had from Danby denied the Airbus No.12.

On 82’ Lanceley went on a run down the left as he beat the Flint Mountain defender and found himself with just the goalkeeper to beat but his effort was saved down low by Danby.

There was 6 minutes of injury time added and three minutes into that time Cooke looked to have escaped and was tearing in on goal, but Jordan Williams had other ideas as he brought down Cooke and was shown a red card for a last man challenge.

From the resulting free kick, Jordan Evans played a short free kick to Sam Baker who crossed the ball into the 6-yard box and Lanceley’s effort was blocked.

The whistle blew on a very physical game, and Airbus showed their great mentality to come from behind and take the three points.
