Saturday saw Airbus Reserves travel up the road to our neighbours Mold Reserves for the first clash this season in the Reserves League
For Airbus Reserves this was their first league game on the grass this season to which they stood up to the challenge well. The weather conditions (heavy rain) didn’t stop us playing our brand of football
Airbus started the game very positively and really dominated possession from early on. This paid off early in the game with a well worker corner setting up Oli Lanceley on 11’ for his first of the day assisted by Robbie Jones
The visitors stuck back instantly on 12’ as a defensive error was punished with a clever goal from the Mold number 9 Hughes chipping into the net
Airbus took control of the game again quickly getting back to work creating chance after chance. Eventually Callum Hughes headed home another well worked set piece routine on 28’ assisted by Liam Jones
Quickly after this three more goals one by Rob Austin and two by Oli Lanceley to complete his first, first half hat trick since returning from injury. Goals assisted by Rob Austin, Elliot Orton and Liam Jones. First half ended 6-1 to Airbus
Second half saw Airbus heavily dominate the ball and play some very good phases of the game. The young squad put on a very mature performance that would of made the club very proud, creating chance after chance but still remaining composed and doing things right, which is sometimes hard in games that feel won early on
Second half saw Robbie Jones bag a goal from a recovery and also Archie Floate from another Elliot Orton assist to complete the game 8-1 win to the young Airbus side
Thank you to our hosts for welcoming us to their ground on a wet Saturday afternoon and good luck for the next phase of their campaign
Player of the week has to go to Robbie Jones, who works tirelessly week in week out. Robbie is maturing in to a well rounded player who knows that you have to work hard for your team and dig in when it matters. Fantastically talented young man and a real leader in the squad. Well done Robbie
Special mention has to go to Oli Lanceley who comes in to the reserves to prepare him to join his first team squad after a horrible 14+ months of injury. Oli is an exceptional young man with a real hunger to get back to full fitness. Not only is he a prolific goal threat but he is also an outstanding mentor for some of the young reserves players always leading by example. Thanks Oli
