U14's National Futsal Champions

Victory in Cardiff for Dave Riley's squad.

The first silverware of the season headed back to the Airfield as our U14’s came back from the national Futsal Finals held in Cardiff as tournament winners. Dave Riley’s squad headed down to the Country’s capital to represent the Northern section as Northern champions, along with runners up TNS to play Southern representatives Barry Town and Carmarthan AFC. The Wingmakers had Barry Town in the first semi final and they soon got into the swing of the things with early goals from Brad Johnson and Jake Stalker, which was also added to just before the break with a goal from Leo Branch to take a 3-0 lead into half time. The second half saw Airbus continue to impress with some excellent football and further goals from Krys Durakiewicz, Will Gordon and Ash Mather saw them cruise into the final where they would face Carmarthan AFC after their win over TNS in the other semi final.
It was a nervy start from Airbus as both sides did not want to face losing but those nerves were eased for the Wingmakers as Brad Johnson got his second goal of the day to put Airbus in the lead. It was not long after when the lead doubled after Leo Branch also got his second after a smart curling shot finished in the back of the net. The excellent Carmarthan side kept pushing though and were working very hard to get themselves back into the game, forcing Airbus keeper James McHarrie into a number of smart saves to keep them at bay. Carmarthan did eventually break the Airbus defence down to concede their first goal of the day to reduce the lead to one but an Ellis Haldon goal for Airbus in the later stages eased any nerves and saw the lads go through to win the tournament.
This was a superb achievement for the players and coaches as a number of the players were also included in the U12’s squad that had won the trophy two years ago, whilst it was coach Dave Riley’s hat trick of trophies at this tournament with wins also in 2015 and 2017. Well Done to all involved!!!
