The Wingmakers unbeaten streak comes to an end, after Jamie Cumming early second half penalty proved to be the difference for Ruthin Town.

The Hosts toon the lead through William Owen before Jake Eyre got the equaliser just before the break. However, the Wingmakers then went down to ten men with Gaz Edwards being shown a straight red.

Steve O’Shaughnessy made three changes to the starting lineup from our last game against Llanrhaedr Y-M six weeks ago, Jamie Crowther returned for his first game since august, Elliot Orton and Oli Lancely also returned, with Beau Cornish, Nathan brown and Owen Payne all dropping to the bench.

As for the host they also made two changes to the starting lineup from their last match against Colwyn Bay, with Owain Morris and Vita Mboloke came in for William Owen and Isaac Lambert.

The match was seen as a mouthwatering clash going into it, with it being fourth vs first, with the hosts winning 8 out of the last 10, whilst for ourselves we were on a 14 game unbeaten run in the league.

The Wingmakers got out of the traps quickly despite the layoff, with a couple of early set pieces, but it was the hosts who had the first chance of the game. Matthew Hill made a break down the left, and pulled Lewis Dutton into an early save in the third minute.

Two minutes later though, The Wingmakers should have been infront. A great reaction cross from Joe Palmer, found the inform Eyre in space. But the attacker’s shot was just wide of the goal.

In the 15th minute though, the hosts took the lead against the run of play. A debatable foul on G. Edwards allowed Owain Morris to make a break and found Owen in space who slotted home from just inside the box.

We nearly had the perfect response, a long throw from Steve Tomassen found G. Edwards in the box who headed back to Oli Lanceley, but the striker narrowly missed Ryan Goldston and the hosts net.

We did have the ball in the net in the 26th minute some great pressure from the Airbus attack allowed Eyre to header home, however, the referee deemed a foul in the build up on Goldston and chalked the chance off.

The hosts went close again after in the 36th minute Owain Morris made a break and shot from the far left side beating Dutton, but the post save our blushes, before Sam Rickett rebound was cleared by Elliott Orton.

In the 39th minute, Adam Davies cut behind the Ruthin defence, but his shot went narrowly over the bar.

One minute later, we weren’t to be denied again. Eyre stole the ball midway inside the hosts half, before cooly finding his way down the flank and cutting across Daniel Cox before calmly slotting home.

The game got underway to the worse possible way for The Wingmakers, as G. Edwards was shown a straight red card for a last man tackle and from the resulting penalty, Cumming gave Phil Hudson’s men the lead.

The game then continued to be heated and fiery contest, however in the 70th minute a penalty shout for the Wingmakers. Davies with some fancy footwork and was brought down in the box. However, the referee deemed it to have been simulation and was booked for it.

The Wingmakers attempted to find the equaliser despite the man deficit, however it was in vain and the hosts held on, and handed
us our first league defeat since July.

However, we don’t have long to lick our wounds as we have Conwy at home next Friday.
