Ryan Edwards netted in the second half to rescue a 1-1 draw for the Bus in the JD Cymru North against Penrhyncoch.

Geoff Kellaway fired the hosts ahead after the break - finishing off a wonderful counter-attack with a fine finish, before R.Edwards restored parity finding the corner of the net in stylish fashion.

Airbus pushed for a winning goal but had to settle for a point despite dominating much of proceedings on away turf.

Steve O’Shaughnessy named a strong starting line-up in mid-Wales. The side was boosted by the returns of experienced duo Gaz Edwards and Simon Spender, whilst TNS loanee Beau Cornish also featured from the outset.

On a boggy surface – blustery conditions to contend with – it proved challenging for either side to grab a foothold of the contest early on. The Wingmakers were unable to impose their usual possession-based style to advance through the thirds of the pitch as the Roosters dropped everyone behind the ball.

The hosts had a rare venture out of their deep lying defensive block in the sixth minute. Delivering from a set-piece, G.Edwards was on hand to clear any potential danger with a commanding header inside the box.

Jay Crowther – who was showing his extensive passing range in midfield – created the first clear-cut Airbus chance in the 19th minute. Crossing for Adam Davies in open play, the striker beat the advancing Penrhyncoch goalkeeper to the delivery, but glanced his header narrowly wide.

Aneurin Thomas’ men always possessed a threat on the break with the Bus intent on pushing forward. Josh Shaw almost capitalised on the space in-behind when he raced through one-on-one with Lewis Dutton but slashed off target.

It was a half of few chances. Davies stung the palms of Leigh Jenkins outside the area who collected comfortably, before G.Edwards rose highest to meet Cornish’s free kick on the brink of half time. The defender nodded wide meaning it remained goalless at the break.

Following a surge of Airbus pressure after the interval, Penrhyncoch broke the deadlock against the run of play on the hour mark. Kellaway dribbled down the left flank then cut in and curled into the corner past Dutton at full stretch.

O’Shaughnessy’s troops were dealt another blow minutes later. G.Edwards was forced off with injury leading to a reshuffle at the back.

His replacement Ieuan Hewitt, nearly marked his introduction by scoring with his first touch. Stepping over a free kick just inside the opposition half, the 28-year-old's fizzing strike travelled through bodies. Only a top-class fingertip Jenkins stop denied Hewitt a fairytale impact.

Persistence eventually paid off for the Bus in the 71st minute. R.Edwards found space on the right-hand side of the 18-yard box. From an acute angle, his right-footed hit sailed into the far corner. The midfielder had his second goal of the season, and Airbus were now hunting a winner.

That elusive second goal almost arrived through talisman Davies. Substitute Nathan Brown’s ‘Beckham-esque’ corner reached the forward who couldn’t adjust his feet in time to poke home.

Racing in front of his marker at the front post, an inventive looping Oli Lanceley header came inches away from nestling into the net in the latter stages.

Despite best efforts, it was not to be Airbus’ day. The Bus now have a two-week break from action before Llanidloes Town visit the Hollingsworth Group Stadium at the end of February.
